The 440N-ZPREC is the replacement actuator for Allen-Bradley's 440N-Z21 SensaGuard non-contact safety interlock switch. Its entire purpose is defined by its coding: this is a high-coded RFID actuator, meaning each unit carries a unique digital identity that the paired 440N-Z21 switch reads and verifies. Only that specific actuator can operate that specific switch. No substitute, no generic magnet, no improvised workaround will work.
That level of coding is what ISO 14119 calls high tamper resistance -- and it is what separates a properly specified safety interlock from a guards-closed sensor that can be defeated with a piece of tape and a spare magnet. In Category 4 / PLe safety systems, where a single undetected fault must not lead to loss of the safety function, this kind of actuator is not an optional upgrade. It is part of the architecture.
The non-contact design means no physical contact between the actuator and the switch during operation -- the RFID signal crosses the gap. No cam, no key, no contact wear. The door or guard simply moves into the sensing zone and the switch reads the actuator's code. Non-contact operation also eliminates the mechanical wear that can gradually degrade conventional key-type interlock switches in high-cycle machine guarding applications.
IP67 covers temporary immersion to one metre. IP69K covers high-pressure, high-temperature washdown -- the IEC 60529 jet test at 80°C minimum, high pressure, from close range. Both are confirmed independently on the 440N-ZPREC. For food processing, beverage production, and pharmaceutical equipment where regular CIP or SIP cleaning cycles are standard, this dual rating is the specification that matters.
The 440N-ZPRECM is the magnetic-hold variant of the same actuator -- it includes a magnetic hold function to maintain switch-closed state when the guard is in position. The 440N-ZPREC is the standard coded actuator without magnetic hold. Confirm which variant the installed 440N-Z21 switch was ordered with before sourcing a replacement actuator.

Only the correct coded actuator for that specific 440N-Z21 switch. High-coded RFID actuators carry a unique digital identity -- the switch will not operate with a different unit, even another 440N-ZPREC from a different serial. The actuator and switch are paired. For replacement after actuator damage or loss, the correct procedure is to replace with 440N-ZPREC and follow the switch's pairing procedure.
Standard coding uses a code shared across many units -- a switch accepts any actuator with the correct code class, making it easier to defeat. High coding assigns a unique individual code to each actuator -- the switch accepts only its specific paired actuator. ISO 14119 requires high coding for applications where tamper resistance is critical. Category 4 / PLe safety systems require high-coded actuators to prevent deliberate or accidental bypass.
If the guard was repaired and the actuator was replaced or repositioned, confirm the actuator is the original 440N-ZPREC paired with that specific switch. An incorrect or unpaired actuator will not be recognised. Also verify the actuator's alignment -- the RFID read zone has defined approach and sensing distances. A repositioned actuator may be outside the switch's operating range.
Yes. The IP67 / IP69K dual rating confirms the actuator is qualified for both water immersion and high-pressure hot washdown. Ensure the mating cable and switch assembly also carry the appropriate IP rating for the complete safety system to maintain its protection level in washdown conditions.
No. The 440N-ZPREC is specifically coded for use with Allen-Bradley's 440N-Z21 SensaGuard non-contact safety interlock. RFID coding protocols are proprietary -- this actuator will not be recognised by safety switches from other manufacturers or by other Allen-Bradley switch families outside the SensaGuard 440N-Z21 platform.
